Privacy policy

How the MetroBus Coimbra app for Android and iOS treats your data. The short version: it does not collect any.

In short

MetroBus Coimbra has no account, no sign-up and no tracking. It does not collect personal data, does not show adverts and does not send anything about you anywhere. Everything the app remembers stays on your phone.

What the app keeps on your phone

So the app opens where you left it, it stores a few settings in its own private storage on the device:

The home-screen widget on Android and the widget and Live Activity on iOS read this same on-device data. None of it is linked to you as a person, and all of it is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its storage in the system settings.

Location

If you allow it, the app uses your location while it is open to find the nearest station and estimate your walk to it. The position is processed on the phone and is never stored, logged or sent to a server. The permission is optional: without it you simply choose a station yourself, and you can withdraw it at any time in the system settings.

Network connections

The app connects to the internet for one thing: to download the public timetable (schedule.json) and the operator's service notices (alerts.json) from the project's own server, over HTTPS. It asks whether the files changed before downloading them again, so most checks transfer nothing. The map that shows the network ships inside the app; no map tiles are downloaded.

As with any download, the server sees the internet address (IP) of the device making the request. No account, identifier, location or anything else about you is sent with it, and it is not used to identify you.

Reminders and notifications

When you ask for a departure reminder, the app schedules a notification on your phone using the system's own notification service. On Android 13 and later it asks for permission to show notifications first. On iOS the departure can also appear as a Live Activity on the lock screen. Reminders are created and delivered entirely on the device.

No adverts, no analytics, no third parties

Links that leave the app

The Info screen links to the official Metro Mondego and SMTUC websites and to the operator's support telephone line, and the map credits OpenStreetMap. Following any of these opens your browser or phone app and leaves MetroBus Coimbra; those services have their own privacy policies.

Your control

Because there are no accounts and no data is collected, there is no profile of you to request, correct or delete. To remove everything the app knows, uninstall it or clear its storage in the system settings. Location and notification permissions can be withdrawn at any time in the same place.

About this policy

MetroBus Coimbra is developed and published by Carlos Mota, an independent developer. It is not an official Metro Mondego app and is not affiliated with the operator. If the app ever starts handling data differently, this page will be updated and the date below will change.
